Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, announced the development after meeting a delegation from the bank led by General Manager Peng Shuang.
According to Tijani, the bank reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the implementation of the project.
He revealed that CIB intends to help deliver at least 1,000 telecom tower sites before the end of 2026.
The minister described the commitment as a major milestone for Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda.
Project Targets Over 20 Million Nigerians
The Nigeria Rural Connectivity Project seeks to improve access to communication services in communities that remain disconnected from reliable networks.
Many of these areas are located in rural and riverine regions where connectivity challenges persist.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Communications Commission revealed that telecom operators plan to upgrade 12,000 network sites in 2026.

According to NCC Executive Vice Chairman Aminu Maida, telecom operators upgraded slightly more than 3,000 sites in 2025.
However, operators have now committed to a much larger expansion programme this year.
