Transcorp Hotels graduates Women Business Empowerment Programme as the hospitality company celebrates the successful completion of the 16th cohort of its flagship initiative aimed at supporting women through vocational training and entrepreneurship.

The programme, known as the Business Empowerment Programme for Women (BEPW), equips young women with practical business and tailoring skills to help them establish sustainable livelihoods. Through the initiative, Transcorp Hotels Plc continues to promote economic inclusion, entrepreneurship and community development.

The graduation ceremony highlighted the company’s long-term investment in empowering women with skills that can generate income and create employment opportunities.

Programme Has Empowered 64 Women Since 2016

Transcorp Hotels launched the Business Empowerment Programme for Women in partnership with ACE Charity in 2016.

Since then, the initiative has empowered 64 women with vocational training, entrepreneurial knowledge and business support.

Each participant completes six months of intensive training designed to prepare them for self-employment.

The curriculum includes tailoring, financial management, customer service, marketing and business development.

Upon completing the programme, every graduate receives a sewing machine and other essential equipment to help launch a tailoring business immediately.

According to the company, this support enables beneficiaries to apply their new skills without delay while building sustainable sources of income.

Sustainability Remains a Core Part of the Initiative

Beyond entrepreneurship, the programme also promotes environmental responsibility.

Transcorp Hotels repurposes pre-used hotel bedding into training materials for participants.

This approach supports circular fashion practices while reducing operational waste generated within the hotel.

The company said combining vocational education with sustainability reflects its broader commitment to responsible business practices.

By integrating environmental awareness into skills training, the programme prepares participants to embrace sustainable production methods in their future businesses.

CEO Highlights Long-Term Social Impact

Speaking during the graduation ceremony, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Transcorp Hotels Plc, Uzoamaka Oshogwe, said the initiative reflects the company’s mission to create lasting value beyond hospitality services.

She noted that the organisation remains committed to investing in people and supporting communities through meaningful development programmes.

“We believe hospitality goes beyond the experiences we create within our hotels,” she said.

“Through this programme, we are investing in young women, supporting entrepreneurship, creating social and economic impact, and promoting sustainability.”

Oshogwe congratulated the latest graduates and encouraged them to build successful businesses.

She expressed confidence that many of them would become employers, contribute to local economic growth and strengthen their communities.

Corporate Social Responsibility Beyond Hospitality

The Business Empowerment Programme for Women forms part of Transcorp Hotels Plc’s wider corporate social responsibility strategy.

The company focuses its sustainability efforts on education, vocational training, skills development and community investment.

According to the organisation, the programme goes beyond teaching technical skills.

It also builds participants’ confidence, strengthens their business knowledge and prepares them to manage resilient enterprises.

By combining entrepreneurship education with practical start-up support, the initiative seeks to improve long-term economic opportunities for women.

Transcorp Hotels said it will continue expanding sustainability programmes that create positive social, economic and environmental impact.

The company added that its vision extends beyond delivering exceptional guest experiences.

It also aims to improve lives by supporting individuals, communities and sustainable development initiatives.

As Transcorp Hotels graduates Women Business Empowerment Programme, the company reinforces its commitment to empowering women through practical skills, entrepreneurship and sustainable business development.

With 64 beneficiaries trained since 2016, the initiative continues to provide young women with the knowledge, equipment and confidence needed to establish successful businesses and contribute to Nigeria’s economic growth.
