Wizkid Detty December Fest 2026 plans to open with the Grammy-winning Afrobeats star as its first confirmed headliner.

Wizkid will headline the festival’s opening night on December 18, 2026, in Lagos. His performance will launch a two-week celebration of African music, culture, food, fashion and entertainment.

The festival will run from December 18 through December 30. Organisers also plan to introduce a second stage for this year’s edition.

Livespot360, the entertainment company behind Detty December Fest, will produce the event. The company has also promoted major international performances in Nigeria and Ghana.

Wizkid’s appearance marks a major homecoming for the Nigerian superstar. The singer has spent much of his career performing across international stages while building a global audience for Afrobeats.

The festival’s organisers expect his opening-night performance to attract fans from Nigeria and beyond.

Last year’s inaugural Detty December Fest welcomed more than 40,000 festivalgoers. The event featured major African and international acts, including Busta Rhymes, Gunna, Shenseea, Tiwa Savage, Diamond Platnumz and Phyno.

Wande Coal, Fave, Young John, Qing Madi, Ice Prince, Jux and Wizkid also performed at the festival.

For the 2026 edition, Wizkid will headline the Festival Stage, which will remain the event’s main performance platform.

Organisers will also introduce the Pulse Stage. The new stage will spotlight emerging artists, fresh sounds and young talents shaping the future of African music.

Additional headliners for the festival will be announced in the coming weeks.

Livespot co-founder and Chief Creative Officer Darey Art Alade said the new stage reflects the growing global influence of African music.

He said the platform would give emerging artists an opportunity to perform alongside established stars and build stronger connections within the African music ecosystem.

The announcement comes as Detty December continues to grow beyond a music celebration. The annual festive period has become a major cultural and tourism attraction in Lagos.

According to the MO Africa Company Detty December Report, festivities generated an estimated ₦396.5 billion in consumer spending across Lagos.

The Nigerian government has also recognised the economic potential of the period. Ahead of the 2025 celebrations, the Federal Executive Council established a presidential task force to coordinate government agencies and strengthen tourism during Detty December.

Wizkid’s 2026 appearance also comes after a relatively quiet period for the singer.

In January, he collaborated with Asake on Real, Vol. 1. He later released collaborations with artists including Vybz Kartel, Odeal and Jorja Smith.

Wizkid also featured on Tyla’s “Dynamite” and Ayra Starr’s “Gimme Dat”. The latter earned a nomination for Best African Music Performance at the 2026 Grammy Awards.

The singer spent much of 2025 touring in support of his 2024 album Morayo, which reached No. 4 on the Billboard World Albums chart.

With fans also awaiting his seventh studio album, his Detty December appearance gives Nigerian fans another opportunity to see the Afrobeats star perform at home.

Detty December Fest 2026 will begin on December 18, with Wizkid headlining the opening night.
