ECEWS health services have impacted more than 16 million Nigerians through a wide range of healthcare and social support programmes across underserved communities. The Excellence Community Education Welfare Scheme (ECEWS) revealed that its interventions have improved access to HIV care, tuberculosis treatment, malaria management, maternal health services, education and emergency response support. The organisation disclosed these achievements during activities marking its 25th anniversary in Abuja.
Over the years, ECEWS has expanded its reach across several states and has continued to strengthen healthcare delivery for vulnerable populations. Its programmes also support economic empowerment and community development efforts.
ECEWS Expands Access to Critical Healthcare Services
The organisation reported significant milestones in healthcare delivery across Nigeria. According to ECEWS, no fewer than 319,324 Nigerians have received treatment for tuberculosis through its programmes.
In addition, 295,548 people benefited from malaria treatment initiatives. The organisation also enrolled 11,474 individuals into state and community health insurance schemes.
ECEWS stated that these achievements reflect its commitment to providing quality healthcare services in underserved areas. The group explained that its efforts focus on improving access to essential care while supporting long-term community wellbeing.
Furthermore, the organisation noted that it continues to invest in health education and preventive care programmes. These interventions help communities make informed health decisions and improve overall outcomes.
ECEWS Celebrates 25 Years of Community Impact
Speaking during the anniversary engagement in Abuja, the Chairman of the ECEWS Board, Prof. EnoAbasi Urua, highlighted the organisation’s contributions to healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
She explained that ECEWS has consistently improved access to treatment and support services for people affected by various health challenges. According to her, the organisation has helped many beneficiaries regain hope and improve their quality of life.
Urua also noted that ECEWS has broadened its activities beyond HIV interventions. As a result, the organisation now implements programmes covering tuberculosis, malaria control, humanitarian assistance and empowerment initiatives.
She added that ECEWS operates in 19 states and continues to develop sustainable solutions that strengthen communities and public institutions.
Health Minister Commends ECEWS Contributions
The Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Muhammad Ali Pate, praised the organisation for its long-standing impact on Nigeria’s health sector.
According to the minister, ECEWS reflects the values driving the Federal Government’s ongoing healthcare reforms. He said those reforms focus on sustainability, efficiency, integrity and measurable outcomes.
Pate stressed that ECEWS has demonstrated how organisations can create lasting change through responsible leadership and community-focused programmes.
He said, “We don’t have too many institutions, whether in the health or education sector, that have endured this long in terms of the sustainability of their results, efficiency of their approaches and the kind of impact that they continue to deliver for the Nigerian people.”
The minister noted that the organisation’s ability to sustain results over two decades makes it a model for development-focused institutions across the country.
Stakeholders Highlight Sustainability and Accountability
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Bernard Doro, also addressed participants during the event. He emphasised the importance of ensuring that humanitarian interventions produce visible benefits for vulnerable populations.
According to him, organisations must focus on outcomes that directly improve lives and strengthen communities.
Meanwhile, ECEWS Chief Executive Officer, Andy Eyo, reflected on the organisation’s 25-year journey. He attributed its longevity to integrity, prudent resource management and a strong commitment to public service.
Eyo explained that ECEWS has consistently implemented programmes with accountability and transparency. He added that the organisation remains dedicated to improving healthcare, education and empowerment opportunities for Nigerians.
The CEO further stated that ECEWS will continue supporting national development through sustainable interventions that address pressing social and health challenges.
