Tinubu Reassures South-West on Security

President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to tackling insecurity across the country. Speaking through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, the President assured residents that efforts to rescue victims of the recent Oriire abduction remain a top priority. Tinubu security assurance,The assurance came during the commissioning of the remodelled Premier Hotel in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The statement followed growing concerns over the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area. Tinubu reassures South-West on security by pledging that federal authorities will continue deploying every available resource to secure the release of those held captive.

Federal Government Intensifies Rescue Operations

During the event, Tinubu said the Federal Government remains fully committed to addressing rising incidents of kidnapping, banditry and violent crimes across Nigeria.

According to him, security agencies are working tirelessly to ensure the abducted victims return home safely. He added that the government has expanded its response strategy and is collaborating with international partners where necessary.

“I wish to reassure the good people of Oyo State and indeed the South-West that the Federal Government is seriously addressing the upswing in banditry, kidnapping and associated criminalities across the nation.

“Every realistic measure, including international collaboration, is being taken to ensure that the kidnapped victims in Oriire Local Government are safely brought home without harm or avoidable loss of life,” he said.

The President also called on citizens to remain alert and support security agencies with useful information. Furthermore, he urged communities to strengthen cooperation with law enforcement agencies.

Tinubu Highlights Security Reforms

Tinubu noted that lasting economic progress depends on peace and public safety. As a result, his administration continues to strengthen the country’s security framework.

He explained that government efforts now focus on improved intelligence gathering, stronger cooperation among security agencies and greater use of technology in surveillance operations.

In addition, the President stressed the importance of traditional rulers and religious leaders in maintaining security within their communities. He said their involvement can help prevent crime and improve local intelligence gathering.

Tinubu also revealed that lawmakers are considering measures aimed at improving policing structures nationwide.

“There is an ongoing process in the National Assembly targeted at enhancing policing at all levels. We hope to roll this out in no distant future,” he stated.

He expressed confidence that recent security reforms are already producing positive outcomes in several parts of the country. According to him, the government will continue these efforts until Nigerians can live and conduct business without fear.

President Speaks on Economy and Investment Confidence

Beyond security matters, Tinubu highlighted key economic reforms introduced by his administration. He said these measures seek to address long-standing structural challenges while creating a stable foundation for growth.

The President stated that investor confidence continues to improve. He also pointed to increasing strategic investments and renewed activity across critical sectors of the economy.

According to him, Nigeria’s foreign reserves have reached their strongest level in two decades. He described this achievement as evidence that the country is moving in a positive direction.

Tinubu further argued that the newly upgraded Premier Hotel reflects growing confidence in Nigeria’s economic future.

“The newly transformed Premier Hotel is itself a vote of confidence in Nigeria’s future. It represents optimism, enterprise and belief in the opportunities ahead,” he said.

He encouraged both local and foreign investors to explore opportunities in the country. At the same time, he assured them that government policies would continue to support business growth and investment.

Premier Hotel Reopens After Major Transformation

The President described the rehabilitation of Premier Hotel as more than a renovation project. He said the reopening marks the restoration of a historic national asset with deep roots in Nigeria’s hospitality industry.

“Today, what we are celebrating is not just the reopening of a hotel, but the restoration of a true national icon,” he remarked.

Tinubu praised the six South-West states that jointly own Odu’a Investment Company Limited for preserving and modernising the landmark facility.

Representing Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Muisibau Babatunde, described the redevelopment as a significant achievement. He said Premier Hotel remains an important symbol of the region’s social, cultural and economic heritage.

Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa also celebrated the reopening. He described the project as “history reborn” and said it reflects resilience, renewal and confidence in the future.

Likewise, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by Secretary to the State Government Mrs Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, said the project demonstrates how heritage preservation can support economic development.

Chairman of Odu’a Investment Company Limited, Otunba Bimbo Ashiru, said the commissioning signifies the rebirth of one of Nigeria’s most important hospitality assets.

He explained that Premier Hotel opened in 1966 as the flagship hospitality facility of the former Western Region. Following extensive redevelopment, the hotel now offers 154 luxury rooms and suites, up from its previous capacity of 87 rooms.

Ashiru added that the company preserved the hotel’s architectural identity while upgrading facilities to meet international hospitality standards. He also disclosed plans to redevelop additional hospitality assets, including Lagos Airport Hotel and Lafia Hotel in Ibadan.

“Premier Hotel is the cornerstone, but it is by no means the final destination. We remain committed to building globally competitive businesses that will restore the South-West to its pride of place as the economic heartbeat of Nigeria,” he said.

The President pledged that the Federal Government will continue pursuing every available option to secure the release of the Oriire abductees.
