DisCos revenue collection reached ₦203.61 billion in April 2026 as Nigeria’s electricity distribution companies recovered more than 80 percent of the total amount billed to customers. New figures released by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) show that power distributors collected 80.66 percent of the ₦252.43 billion invoiced during the month.

The latest report highlights strong performances by several electricity distribution companies, although collection rates varied widely across the country.

NERC Reports ₦48.82bn Outstanding Revenue

According to NERC, the 11 electricity distribution companies billed customers a combined ₦252.43 billion in April.

They recovered ₦203.61 billion, leaving ₦48.82 billion unpaid.

The figures indicate that distributors successfully collected more than four-fifths of the revenue expected for the month.

However, unpaid bills continue to affect the financial performance of the power sector.

Abuja, Ikeja and Eko Lead Revenue Collection

Abuja Electricity Distribution Company recorded the highest collection during the period.

The company recovered ₦37.55 billion from ₦44.36 billion billed to customers.

Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company followed closely after collecting ₦37.34 billion from billings of ₦41.50 billion.

Eko Electricity Distribution Company ranked third.

It recovered ₦36.87 billion from ₦39.12 billion billed.

Together, the three companies generated more than half of the total revenue collected nationwide in April.

Other Distribution Companies Post Mixed Results

Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company billed ₦30.35 billion and collected ₦21.74 billion.

Enugu Electricity Distribution Company recovered ₦13.92 billion from ₦19.70 billion billed.

Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company recorded one of the strongest collection rates.

The company recovered ₦15.83 billion from ₦17.32 billion billed.

Benin Electricity Distribution Company also performed well by collecting ₦16.34 billion from ₦17.10 billion billed.

Northern DisCos Face Lower Collection Rates

Several northern electricity distributors recorded lower revenue recovery.

Kano Electricity Distribution Company billed ₦16.04 billion but collected only ₦8.00 billion.

Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company recovered ₦5.83 billion from ₦10.52 billion billed.

Jos Electricity Distribution Company collected ₦6.51 billion out of ₦11.05 billion invoiced.

Yola Electricity Distribution Company billed ₦5.30 billion and recovered ₦3.63 billion.

These figures show a significant gap between energy supplied and payments received in some parts of the country.

Revenue Recovery Remains Critical to Power Sector

DisCos revenue collection remains a key indicator of the financial health of Nigeria’s electricity market.

Distribution companies rely on customer payments to meet their financial obligations to electricity generation companies and the market operator.

Higher collection rates improve cash flow across the power value chain and support investments in electricity infrastructure.

The April figures also reveal that while some companies recovered more than 90 percent of their billings, others collected only about half of the revenue due.

The latest NERC data shows that Nigeria’s electricity distribution companies recovered ₦203.61 billion from ₦252.43 billion billed in April 2026. Although the sector achieved an overall collection rate of 80.66 percent, the wide differences among distribution companies highlight the need for improved billing efficiency and stronger revenue recovery across the country’s power network.
