The launch of Moniepoint Innovation Hubs marks a major investment in Nigeria’s growing technology ecosystem. Moniepoint Group announced a ₦3 billion commitment to establish innovation centers in three leading Nigerian universities over the next three years. The initiative targets student development in areas such as software engineering, artificial intelligence, robotics, product design, and entrepreneurship. Beyond infrastructure, the project also aims to create a stronger pipeline of skilled technology professionals for Nigeria’s expanding digital economy.

Moniepoint selected three major institutions for the initiative: Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), and Ahmadu Bello University (ABU). The company said it chose these universities to create balanced opportunities across different regions of the country.

Each hub will function as a practical learning center instead of a traditional classroom. Students from different academic backgrounds will have access to structured learning programs designed to improve technical and entrepreneurial skills.

The centers will provide training in software engineering, data science, artificial intelligence, robotics, product development, and design. Students will also participate in mentorship programs and work on real projects that reflect industry demands.

Moniepoint believes Nigeria’s digital economy needs stronger local talent development. The company also wants to reduce dependence on external expertise by creating homegrown technology professionals.

Moniepoint Co-founder and Group Chief Executive Officer, Tosin Eniolorunda, explained that Nigerian universities played an important role in building many successful technology professionals.

He noted that institutions such as OAU and UNILAG provided the early academic foundation that shaped careers in technology and entrepreneurship. According to him, the new hubs represent an opportunity to give back while strengthening the future workforce.

The initiative goes beyond financial support. Moniepoint plans to involve its engineering, product, and business teams directly in the program. Industry experts will support curriculum development and provide mentorship opportunities.

Students will gain exposure to practical experiences through internships and project-based learning. This approach could help bridge the long-standing gap between academic learning and industry requirements.

University leaders also welcomed the initiative. OAU Vice-Chancellor Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire described the project as an opportunity to expand student potential and create stronger pathways toward innovation.

Moniepoint has supported educational development before now. Earlier initiatives included the CAD/CAM laboratory established through the Tosin Eniolorunda STEM Foundation and developer training programs at the University of Lagos.

The new hubs build on those earlier efforts and may strengthen Nigeria’s long-term technology capacity.

The Moniepoint Innovation Hubs initiative represents more than a university investment project. It signals a broader effort to build local talent and strengthen Nigeria’s technology ecosystem from within. As demand for digital skills continues to rise, initiatives like this could help prepare the next generation of innovators, entrepreneurs, and technology leaders who will shape Africa’s digital future.
