The Federal Government has announced September 11, 2026, as the deadline for residents of Enugu State to apply for its free technical and vocational training programme.
The programme offers training in Artificial Intelligence, Fashion Design and Solar Installation.
It is being implemented under the National Poverty Reduction with Growth Strategy (NPRGS).
The Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Technical, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Education (OSSAP-TVEE) is coordinating the initiative.
The Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning is also supporting the programme.
According to the government, the training is designed to help participants develop practical skills for employment, entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods.
Enugu AI training covers digital skills
The Artificial Intelligence track offers participants training in several technology-focused areas.
These include Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Programming, Deep Learning and Data Analytics.
Participants will also learn problem-solving skills as part of the programme.
The government expects these skills to help young Nigerians build careers in the growing digital economy.
The training could also support participants who want to develop technology-based businesses or offer digital services.
Fashion and solar training also available
The programme also includes practical training in Fashion Design.
Participants in the fashion track will learn pattern making, sewing and garment construction.
The course also covers fashion illustration and entrepreneurship.
Meanwhile, the Solar Installation track focuses on practical skills for working with solar energy systems.
Participants will learn skills related to solar installation and other aspects of the renewable energy sector.
The inclusion of solar training comes as demand for alternative energy solutions continues to grow across Nigeria.
Government targets employment and entrepreneurship
The Federal Government said the programme is aimed at Enugu residents who want to acquire vocational and technical skills.
It is also designed for people looking to improve their employability or start businesses.
According to the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Technical, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Education, Dr Abiola Arogundade, participants can gain career-relevant and practical skills through the programme.
She said the training can support both employment and self-employment.
Participants can also gain entrepreneurship knowledge that may help them start or expand small businesses.
Arogundade described the initiative with the theme, “Skills Today. Livelihoods Tomorrow. Less Poverty.”
She said the programme forms part of the Federal Government’s broader effort to use technical and vocational education to create economic opportunities.
The government also sees skills development as a tool for tackling poverty.
Applications close September 11
Registration for the Enugu phase of the programme is currently open.
However, prospective participants have until Friday, September 11, 2026, to submit their applications.
The government has encouraged eligible Enugu residents interested in the three training areas to take advantage of the opportunity before the deadline.
The initiative reflects the government’s growing focus on technical and vocational education as a route to employment and entrepreneurship.
For participants, the programme offers an opportunity to develop practical skills without paying for the training.
