FG Pays D’Tigress Players After Historic Afrobasket Win
The Federal Government has paid $100,000 each to D’Tigress players following Nigeria’s historic success at the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket. Team officials also received the naira equivalent of $50,000 each.
The National Sports Commission confirmed that the payments were credited to the accounts of the players and officials on September 9, 2026. According to the commission, all recipients have confirmed receiving the funds.
The payment completes the cash component of the presidential rewards promised to the team by President Bola Tinubu.
D’Tigress Receive Full Presidential Reward
D’Tigress secured their fifth consecutive Afrobasket title and seventh overall in 2025, further strengthening their dominance in African women’s basketball.
Following the achievement, the Federal Government promised a package of rewards for the players and officials. The package included three-bedroom apartments in Abuja, national honours and cash payments.
With the latest disbursement, the government says the full reward promised to D’Tigress has now been delivered.
The National Sports Commission said the players and officials had previously received title documents for their Abuja apartments and certificates for their national honours in February 2026 during the FIBA World Cup qualifiers in Lyon, France.
How Much Did D’Tigress Players Receive?
Each D’Tigress player received the naira equivalent of $100,000, while each team official received the equivalent of $50,000.
The commission described the payment as part of the Federal Government’s broader effort to improve the welfare and recognition of Nigerian athletes.
The reward package also reflects the significance attached to D’Tigress’ continued success on the continental stage.
Super Falcons Await Cash Component
The National Sports Commission also provided an update on the presidential rewards promised to the Super Falcons.
The women’s football team has already received title documents for three-bedroom apartments in Abuja and certificates for national honours. The documents were presented during the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
However, the cash component of the reward is still outstanding.
Like D’Tigress, each Super Falcons player was promised the naira equivalent of $100,000, while officials were promised $50,000 each. The commission said the payment was expected before the team’s next official engagements.
Government Highlights Athletes’ Welfare
The NSC said the rewards demonstrate the government’s commitment to prioritising the welfare of Nigerian athletes.
It also credited several government institutions with helping to implement the presidential package within due process requirements.
The commission thanked the relevant ministries and the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation for their role in completing the payments and other aspects of the reward programme.
