The ruling political party took a major step toward the 2027 general elections in Abeokuta on Sunday. Specifically, the state chapter announced a prominent professional choice as it prepares its official campaign strategy. The news that Ogun APC names Adegunwa-Balogun Yayi’s running mate marks a significant milestone for the political landscape. Governor Dapo Abiodun introduced the candidate during an important strategic caucus meeting held at the party secretariat.

The chosen candidate, Alhaja Kudirat Adegunwa-Balogun, is a highly accomplished 51-year-old Chartered Accountant. Currently, she serves as the Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director of Finance and Administration at Rite Foods Limited. Furthermore, she is the daughter of the famous Nigerian industrialist, Alhaji Adebola Adegunwa. Her selection occurred after extensive consultations with diverse stakeholders and top party leaders across the entire region.

This major development follows the careful zoning of the deputy governorship slot to the Ogun East senatorial district. Consequently, local leaders micro-zoned the position specifically to the Ijebu Central Federal Constituency. Political analysts view this choice as a clever plan to attract corporate professionals, female voters, and eastern citizens. Therefore, this strategic move aims to strengthen the ticket of the governorship candidate, Senator Solomon Adeola, who is popularly called Yayi.

During the busy unveiling ceremony, Governor Abiodun highly praised his party members for maintaining absolute internal peace. He noted that the political group successfully selected 39 candidates for various elective offices without any internal crises. In fact, he stated that he had never witnessed such seamless cooperation during his entire political career in the state. Leaders across generations united beautifully to support a successor, creating an unprecedented example of peaceful consensus.

Senator Adeola also expressed immense confidence in his new partner, citing her excellent corporate leadership credentials. In her inspiring acceptance speech, Adegunwa-Balogun described the historic nomination as a sacred call to public service. She noted that her three decades of administrative experience in the corporate world prepared her perfectly for governance duties. Meanwhile, she mentioned her family’s long exposure to public management, referencing her husband’s past leadership at the Lagos State Security Trust Fund.

Ultimately, she emphasized that this selection represents an important victory for the social inclusion of women and youth. She promised to serve the public with total integrity, transparency, and deep respect for every individual citizen. Now that the Ogun APC names Adegunwa-Balogun Yayi’s running mate, the party hopes to bridge gaps with grassroots communities. The primary goal remains to build a responsive government where development leaves no single person behind.
