President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving Nigeria’s education sector as he commissioned several TETFund-funded projects across four tertiary institutions.
The projects, located in Nasarawa, Kaduna, Jigawa, and Bauchi states, formed part of activities marking the third anniversary of his administration. Through the initiative, the Federal Government aims to strengthen learning environments, improve infrastructure, and prepare students for future opportunities.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremonies, the President stressed that sustained investment in education remains essential for national development.
Education Investment Key to National Growth
While unveiling the projects, Tinubu said investments in educational institutions would shape future generations and help bridge Nigeria’s skills gap.
According to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described education as a critical foundation for long-term progress.
“When you build a classroom, you build a generation,” Tinubu said.
“The investment we are making in our colleges of education, polytechnics and universities today will determine the quality of every Nigerian schoolchild for decades to come.”
He noted that strengthening educational infrastructure would improve learning outcomes and support the country’s economic development goals.
New Science Complex Opens in Nasarawa
At the Nasarawa State College of Education in Akwanga, the President commissioned a newly completed School of Science Complex.
The facility aims to improve the institution’s capacity to train science teachers for primary and secondary schools across the state.
The modern two-storey structure includes reading areas, staff and student electronic libraries, reference sections, administrative offices, and dedicated spaces for academic support services.
Officials believe the project will enhance teaching and research activities while creating a better learning environment for students.
NDA Gets Modern Senate Building and Research Centre
In Kaduna State, Tinubu commissioned two major projects at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Afaka Campus.
The projects include a remodelled Senate Building and a newly constructed Biodiversity and Conservation Centre.
The Senate Building features a 60-seat Senate Council Chamber, executive offices, conference rooms, CCTV systems, access control technology, public address facilities, emergency evacuation systems, and solar-powered backup energy supported by lithium battery storage.
The Biodiversity and Conservation Centre will support environmental research, biodiversity documentation, academic studies, and conservation initiatives.
Tinubu described the NDA as a vital institution in the development of Nigeria’s military leadership.
“Our Armed Forces deserve the best in training, equipment, and the institutions that shape their character,” he said.
“The Nigerian Defence Academy stands at the heart of that mission, and we will continue to invest in its future.”
Polytechnic Project Boosts Technical Education
The President also inaugurated a new classroom complex at Hussaini Adamu Federal Polytechnic, Kazaure, in Jigawa State.
The project was delivered under the TETFund 2024 Special High Impact Intervention programme.
The new facility addresses classroom shortages and provides a more comfortable learning environment for students and lecturers.
Hussaini Adamu Federal Polytechnic remains one of the leading technical education institutions in northwestern Nigeria. The school trains students in engineering, applied sciences, environmental studies, business, and management.
Tinubu said technical and vocational institutions play a crucial role in Nigeria’s industrial growth.
“Our polytechnics are the engine room of Nigeria’s technical workforce,” the President stated.
“We will continue to invest in their classrooms, laboratories, and staff. The skills our economy needs will not come from lecture theatres alone. They will come from hands trained in real workshops.”
New Student Hostel Commissioned in Bauchi
In Bauchi State, Tinubu commissioned a newly completed student hostel at the Gadau Campus of Sa’adu Zungur University.
The project was delivered through the TETFund 2024 Annual Intervention Programme.
According to the Presidency, the hostel cost N738.96 million and took 48 weeks to complete.
The facility is ready for immediate occupation and is expected to reduce accommodation challenges facing students.
Officials also believe the hostel will support increasing student enrolment while improving welfare and campus life.
Government Reaffirms Commitment to Education
Tinubu praised the Minister of Education, TETFund management, contractors, consultants, and institutional leaders for ensuring the successful completion of the projects.
He encouraged students and staff to protect and maintain the facilities to ensure long-term benefits.
The President said the projects reflect the Federal Government’s commitment to expanding and modernising tertiary education infrastructure under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He added that improving educational facilities remains essential to building a skilled workforce capable of driving innovation, economic growth, and national competitiveness.
As Tinubu commissions TETFund projects across four states, the Federal Government continues to position education as a key pillar of national development.
From science laboratories and classrooms to military research facilities and student hostels, the newly completed projects aim to improve learning conditions and support the development of future professionals.
The investments also highlight the administration’s broader goal of creating a stronger education system capable of meeting Nigeria’s long-term workforce and economic needs.
