As Nigeria navigates an increasingly digital financial landscape, LAPO is reinforcing the importance of savings as a foundation for financial security, household resilience and sustainable economic growth, using the 2026 World Savings Day to deepen public awareness and encourage responsible financial decisions.
World Savings Day, celebrated annually on October 31, provides an opportunity to highlight the role of savings in individual and national economic development. This year’s theme, “AI Advises, Human Decides,” draws attention to the growing influence of artificial intelligence on financial decision-making while reinforcing the need for financial awareness, personal judgement and informed choices.
For the bank, the observance goes beyond a calendar event. It reflects a longstanding commitment to making financial services accessible to individuals, households and small businesses, particularly those who remain underserved by conventional financial systems.

The Bank’s approach recognises that financial inclusion is not simply about providing access to financial products; it is also about equipping people with the knowledge and confidence to make those products work for them. Savings, in this regard, remains one of the most practical instruments for building financial discipline, managing unexpected expenses, financing future aspirations and strengthening economic resilience.
Speaking on the significance of the celebration, Director of Marketing and Communication, LAPO Microfinance Bank, Oluremi Akande, emphasised the importance of cultivating a savings mindset in an environment where financial decisions are increasingly influenced by digital tools and information.
She noted that while technology and artificial intelligence can improve access to financial information and support money management, individuals must retain responsibility for their financial choices.
“Building a savings culture requires more than access to financial services. It requires the knowledge, discipline and consistency to make sound financial decisions. As digital technologies increasingly influence how people access and interpret financial information, individuals must understand their options and make choices that align with their financial circumstances and aspirations,” she said.
In marking the occasion, LAPO is leveraging internal and external communications initiatives to strengthen savings awareness and financial literacy. The activities include school and marketplace engagements, media interactions, digital campaigns, financial education sessions and promotional activities designed to increase awareness of the Bank’s savings products.
These engagements are particularly relevant to market traders, micro and small business owners, salaried workers, young people and households whose financial stability often depends on their ability to plan, save consistently and respond to changing economic circumstances.
Through its savings solutions, LAPO provides customers with opportunities to develop structured savings habits and build financial resources towards personal, family and business objectives. For micro-entrepreneurs, regular savings can provide a financial buffer against business disruptions, support inventory purchases and reduce dependence on emergency borrowing. For households, it offers a practical pathway to meeting essential needs, managing unforeseen expenses and planning for the future.
The emergence of artificial intelligence in financial services adds another dimension to the savings conversation. Digital tools can help users access financial information, understand spending patterns and explore savings options. However, the theme, “AI Advises, Human Decides,” is a reminder that technology does not remove the need for financial literacy, discernment and accountability. The quality of a financial decision ultimately depends on the individual’s understanding of the information available and its relevance to their circumstances.
As financial services become increasingly technology-driven, LAPO continues to recognise the importance of combining accessible financial products with customer education and engagement. Its approach places financial empowerment alongside access, ensuring that customers are better positioned to make informed choices and participate meaningfully in the financial system.
The 2026 World Savings Day observance therefore reinforces a central principle: a sustainable savings culture is built through consistent habits, informed decisions and access to financial solutions that respond to people’s needs. For LAPO, advancing this principle remains integral to its commitment to improving lives through value-driven and accessible financial services.
