The Taraba State Internal Revenue Board issued critical tax reform compliance warnings on Thursday to protect citizens from financial fraud. Specifically, authorities cautioned taxpayers across the region against transferring money into private bank accounts. Instead, officials emphasized that all official payments must go through approved government channels and authorized revenue personnel. This vital announcement occurred during an extensive taxpayer sensitization and awareness campaign held in Jalingo, the state capital.

Furthermore, the public enlightenment program covered major areas of the city to reach a wide audience. The street exercise successfully attracted various traders’ associations, market women, local bankers, and other prominent community stakeholders. According to the board, the active project aimed to educate residents on current tax reform initiatives. Consequently, leadership hopes to encourage voluntary cooperation and boost public confidence in the local tax collection system.

Speaking during the busy campaign, the Chairman of the Board, Brigadier General Retired Jeremiah Aliyu Faransa, defended the new policy changes. He praised the cordial relationship that currently exists between revenue officials and ordinary taxpayers. At the same time, he stressed that paying revenue remains both a civic responsibility and a strict legal obligation for every eligible citizen. Therefore, the board considers it highly necessary to intensify public awareness across all neighborhoods.

In addition, Faransa noted that the board must ensure residents understand that no individual possesses the right to collect taxes illegally. He warned that anyone caught engaging in tax-related fraud or revenue diversion will face the full weight of the law. Meanwhile, he appealed directly to residents to embrace these new fiscal laws for the overall benefit of the community. He assured the public that the state government will utilize the generated funds judiciously for infrastructure development and citizen welfare.

In response, several market women and traders’ association leaders expressed immense satisfaction with the timely awareness campaign. They actively pledged to educate their fellow market members on the importance of adhering to these fresh regulations. For instance, many participants described the sensitization exercise as highly beneficial for business owners. Ultimately, they believe the initiative will effectively curb illegal tax collections and dramatically improve compliance rates throughout the state.
