Funke Akindele stopped attending church

Popular Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has opened up about why she stopped attending church physically. The actress revealed that the constant attention she receives during services has made it difficult for her to worship peacefully. According to Funke Akindele, people often focus on taking photos and recording videos whenever she attends church, prompting her decision to join services online instead.

The award-winning actress shared the revelation in a video posted on her Snapchat page. In the clip, she was seen at home preparing breakfast while getting her children ready for church.

However, Funke Akindele explained that she would not accompany them physically. Instead, she planned to participate in the church service online from home.

According to the actress, attending church has become uncomfortable because many people focus more on taking photographs than allowing her to worship quietly.

She said:

“Do not ask if I am going to church. I am not going to church. Anytime I go to church, it is me that they take picture of. I will join online.”

Her statement quickly sparked reactions online, with many fans expressing understanding over the challenges celebrities face in public spaces.

Funke Akindele’s comments have once again highlighted the growing conversation around celebrity privacy in Nigeria. Many public figures often struggle to enjoy normal activities without attracting attention from fans, media teams, and social media users.

For celebrities like Funke Akindele, simple outings such as attending church, shopping, or dining out can quickly become public spectacles. As a result, some celebrities now prefer private gatherings or online participation for events that require quiet reflection.

The actress did not criticize the church itself. Instead, she focused on how the behavior of people around her affects her personal worship experience.

The actress also recently found herself at the center of another viral conversation after a video circulated online suggesting she ignored Fuji musician Wasiu Pasuma at a public event.

The clip, shared on 𝕏, triggered debates among fans after claims emerged that the actress intentionally snubbed the veteran singer.

However, Funke Akindele later dismissed the narrative and described the viral reports as misleading. She maintained that the interpretation of the video did not reflect what truly happened at the event.

The actress continues to remain one of Nollywood’s most talked-about stars, frequently making headlines for both her movie projects and public appearances.

Funke Akindele’s revelation has opened discussions about celebrity privacy and the pressures that come with fame. While many fans admire public figures, constant attention can sometimes interfere with personal moments, including worship. For the Nollywood actress, attending church online now offers a more peaceful and private way to practice her faith.
