The Adamawa State governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, Abdurahman Haske, has unveiled a seven-point development agenda featuring a proposed ₦300bn export-oriented agricultural economy, one million jobs and a ₦200bn agricultural guarantee fund.
Haske said agriculture and mechanised farming would play a central role in expanding the state’s revenue base, creating employment opportunities and improving the economic prospects of young people.
He disclosed the plans at a dinner he hosted for journalists in Yola, the state capital, on Wednesday, saying the agenda was designed to address the challenges facing youths, women and older people affected by economic hardship.
Unveiling the first pillar of his programme, the governorship candidate said it would focus on agriculture and agro-industry.
He outlined the proposal as “Agriculture and Agro Industry: Building a ₦300bn export-oriented economy, creating one million jobs, and establishing a ₦200bn agricultural guarantee fund.”
On infrastructure, Haske proposed rehabilitating 25 kilometres of roads annually in each local government area, alongside improvements to schools and other public facilities.
Under the social development component, he promised to expand social support programmes, including health insurance coverage targeting one million residents.
The candidate also pledged to increase youth participation in governance, leadership and economic programmes, describing youth inclusion as a key component of his proposed administration.
On governance, he promised a transparent and citizen-focused government that would bridge gender, ethnic and religious differences.
His economic empowerment programme, another pillar of the agenda, would support entrepreneurship, small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as initiatives aimed at improving the economic opportunities available to women and young people.
Security also featured among the seven priorities, although the statement did not provide specific details of the proposed measures.
Haske said his decision to enter politics was driven by concern about the hardship experienced by residents rather than personal gain.
He promised that his administration would introduce social protection services to safeguard the dignity and welfare of people across Adamawa State.
The APM candidate also called on journalists to uphold professional ethics and help protect democracy against politicians motivated by greed.
“You are the soldiers to protect our democracy. Without you, we are in trouble. Make sure that honesty and fairness are your watchwords,” he said.
Haske commended Governor Ahmadu Fintiri for his administration’s infrastructure development but said his government would adopt a different approach to tackling the state’s challenges.
