Biodun Oyebanji wins Ekiti governorship election after securing a landslide victory in Saturday’s poll. The Independent National Electoral Commission declared the incumbent governor and All Progressives Congress candidate winner after collation of results from the 16 local government areas. The result means Oyebanji re-elected Ekiti governor for another term.
The announcement came in the early hours of Sunday at the commission’s headquarters in Ado-Ekiti.
INEC Declares Oyebanji Winner
INEC declares Oyebanji winner after the APC candidate polled 319,224 votes. The Returning Officer, Prof. Adenike Oladiji, announced the result at the State Collation Centre.
Oladiji, who is the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, said the governor fulfilled the legal requirements for victory.
She said, “Therefore, I, Adenike, am the returning officer for the 2026 Ekiti governorship election… Oyebanji Abiodun Abayomi, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and stands re-elected.”
The PDP candidate, Olumayokun Oluyede, scored 40,533 votes. Meanwhile, ADC candidate Dare Bejide polled 12,872 votes.
APC Wins Ekiti Governorship Poll by Wide Margin
The APC wins Ekiti governorship poll with a huge lead over its opponents. The figures released by INEC showed the ruling party dominated across the state.
Ekiti State has 988,251 registered voters. Out of that figure, 384,940 voters were accredited.
A total of 382,109 votes were cast during the election. However, valid votes stood at 375,777.
The outcome highlighted the wide gap between the APC and opposition parties. As a result, Biodun Oyebanji wins Ekiti governorship election with one of the biggest margins recorded in recent years.
Oyebanji Re-Elected Ekiti Governor After Sweeping LGAs
Oyebanji re-elected Ekiti governor after winning all 16 local government areas.
The APC candidate secured 38,026 votes in Ado Local Government Area. He also polled 29,278 votes in Irepodun/Ifelodun and 28,258 votes in Ekiti West.
In Ikole Local Government Area, the governor recorded 26,508 votes. He also received 26,359 votes in Ekiti East and 25,506 votes in Ijero.
These results strengthened the APC’s dominance in the state. Consequently, the Ekiti governorship election result reflected overwhelming support for the incumbent governor.
PDP Candidate Loses Home Local Government
One notable development emerged from Ikere Local Government Area. Olumayokun Oluyede lost in his home council despite being an indigene of the area.
The APC secured 11,116 votes in Ikere. By comparison, the PDP candidate polled 9,872 votes, while the ADC recorded 245 votes.
The result further reinforced the scale of the governor’s victory. It also contributed significantly to the final margin.
