A veteran Nollywood actress recently opened up about the incredible beginning of her child’s journey in the music industry. Specifically, the fascinating story of how my son landed record deal with Davido came to light during a recent media interview.

Toyin Adewale shared these intimate family memories while speaking on the popular entertainment show, Talk To B. Her son, the famous singer Mayorkun, initially gained nationwide attention after recording an online cover of a hit track. The creative video quickly went viral across various social media networks.

Consequently, the impressive rendition caught the direct attention of the DMW record label boss himself. Adewale revealed that the Afrobeats superstar reached out to Mayorkun by sending a private message on the platform. However, the family did not initially believe the digital text was authentic. In fact, they heavily suspected that an online scammer was simply impersonating the famous music icon. The anxiety disappeared completely when the hitmaker promised to make a direct voice call to the rising star.

Furthermore, the actress described how her household reacted when the phone call finally went through. She noted that her son became so incredibly excited that he almost went crazy with happiness. During the conversation, the superstar expressed his deep love for the viral music video. Since he was out of town, he instructed the upcoming artist to send over his clothing measurements. Upon his return the following week, the young performer and his brother went to meet the music mogul.

Interestingly, the established star welcomed the siblings with a large box filled with expensive gifts and cash. Adewale confessed that she felt quite terrified at first because she did not know the executive personally. Nevertheless, the young men returned to the studio the very next day to record the breakout single titled Eleko. The creative process felt completely natural for the singer because he grew up writing poems and singing in the church choir.

Following the successful recording session, the young artist and his brother permanently relocated into the superstar’s residence. The actress eventually visited the mansion herself to inspect the living conditions of her children. To her absolute delight, the music boss proved to be exceptionally pleasant, welcoming, and deeply respectful. This life-changing meeting successfully launched a highly productive contract that ran smoothly from 2016 until 2021. Ultimately, the vocalist departed the label to release his second studio album under Sony Music West Africa.
