Ademola Adeleke Wins Osun Election, Begins Second Term

Ademola Adeleke Osun election victory has secured the governor another four years in office after he defeated his closest challenger, All Progressives Congress candidate Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, in the Osun State governorship election.

Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, received 511,067 votes in the election. Oyebamiji polled 444,815 votes, while African Democratic Congress candidate Nojeem Folasayo Salaam finished third with 17,180 votes.

The result gave Adeleke a winning margin of 66,252 votes.

The governor also won in 19 of Osun State’s 30 local government areas. Oyebamiji secured victory in the remaining 11 councils.

Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti declared Adeleke the winner after confirming that he had met the constitutional requirements.

The declaration sparked celebrations across several parts of the state.

In his acceptance speech, Adeleke dedicated his victory to the people of Osun. He particularly thanked voters who supported him despite what he described as intimidation, harassment and arrests during the campaign.

The governor said the result showed that residents had renewed their confidence in his administration.

He promised to build on his achievements during his second term while addressing areas where his government had fallen short.

“As you have trusted me again for the second time in office, I will not disappoint you,” Adeleke said.

He also promised to accelerate development and expand his administration’s five-point agenda.

According to him, his government will work to transform Osun from a predominantly civil service state into an industrial state and a major investment destination.

Adeleke also thanked President Bola Tinubu for what he described as his support for a free and fair election.

He further reaffirmed his support for Tinubu’s bid for another presidential term in 2027, describing the president as a son of Osun State.

Despite the political contest, Adeleke extended an invitation to his opponents to work with his administration.

He said there was no permanent winner or loser after the election and declared himself governor for every resident of Osun.

The African Democratic Congress has accepted the election result and congratulated Adeleke on his victory.

The party also urged the governor to pursue inclusive governance throughout his second term.

APC Considers Legal Action

The APC, however, has not accepted the outcome as the end of the electoral process.

The party said it was reviewing the results and considering its legal options.

Osun APC spokesperson Kola Olabisi said the party would consult its lawyers before deciding whether to challenge the result.

He argued that an election process does not end with the declaration of results. According to him, the law provides opportunities for candidates and parties to seek redress through election tribunals and higher courts.

The party also urged its supporters to remain calm while it considers its next move.

APC further called on the police to protect its members and supporters from alleged harassment.

Tinubu Congratulates Adeleke

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Adeleke on his re-election.

Tinubu personally called the governor after the result and urged him to unite residents across political lines.

The president said the election reflected the choice of Osun voters and described the outcome as evidence that democracy continues to develop in Nigeria.

He also commended other candidates for participating in the election and praised the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies for what he described as a peaceful and transparent process.

Atiku Links Osun Election To 2027

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar also congratulated Adeleke and Osun voters.

Atiku described the election as a forerunner of the 2027 general elections. He said the turnout showed the importance of voters protecting their ballots.

The ADC presidential candidate praised Osun voters for resisting what he described as attempts to undermine the electoral process.

He argued that the result demonstrated the power of voters to challenge vote buying, intimidation and electoral malpractice.

Atiku also criticised the Tinubu administration and claimed that the APC had become unpopular among Nigerians.

He predicted that the opposition would defeat the APC in the 2027 general elections.

For Adeleke, the immediate task now shifts from campaigning to governing. His second term will place greater pressure on his administration to deliver on its promises and justify the confidence voters placed in him.
