Nigerian music superstar Burna Boy has reached another career milestone as the Burna Boy Billboard Global 200 story dominates global headlines. His FIFA World Cup 2026 anthem, Dai Dai, recorded with Colombian singer Shakira, has climbed to No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200 chart.
The achievement marks Burna Boy’s first-ever No. 1 on the worldwide chart. It also makes Dai Dai the first official FIFA World Cup song to top either the Billboard Global 200 or the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart since both rankings launched in 2020.
Burna Boy earns historic Billboard milestone
According to Billboard’s latest rankings, Dai Dai rose two places to claim the top spot during the tracking week of July 3 to July 9.
Industry data from Luminate shows the song generated 41.5 million streams worldwide during that period. That represented an 8% increase compared to the previous week. The single also sold 6,000 units globally.
Outside the United States, the record remained equally impressive. It attracted 37.1 million streams and sold another 4,000 units, allowing it to remain No. 1 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart for a third straight week.
For Burna Boy, this is his first appearance at the summit of the Billboard Global 200. Meanwhile, Shakira celebrates her second global chart-topper after previously reaching No. 1 with TQG, her collaboration with Karol G in March 2023.
World Cup anthem captures global attention
Dai Dai made its live debut during the opening ceremony of the FIFA World Cup 2026 on June 11.
Burna Boy and Shakira performed the song before more than 80,000 fans inside the iconic Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. The energetic performance introduced the tournament’s official anthem to millions of football supporters watching around the world.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup concludes on July 19. Fans will also witness the tournament’s first-ever halftime show during the final at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
The entertainment lineup for the historic event includes Shakira, Justin Bieber, BTS, and Madonna.
Other songs on the Billboard charts
While Dai Dai claimed the top position, several major artists also featured prominently on the Billboard Global 200.
Ariana Grande’s Hate That I Made You Love Me dropped to No. 2 after spending two weeks at No. 1.
Ella Langley’s Choosin’ Texas climbed to a career-best No. 3. Michael Jackson’s timeless hit Billie Jean remained at No. 4 after topping the chart in May.
Olivia Rodrigo’s Stupid Song slipped to No. 5 following two weeks at the summit in June.
On the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart, BTS’ Swim held the No. 2 position after previously spending eight weeks at No. 1. Ariana Grande followed at No. 3, while Billie Jean ranked fourth.
Justin Bieber’s Beauty and a Beat, featuring Nicki Minaj, completed the top five after leading the chart for two weeks in May.
Elsewhere, Los Angeles rock band Temper City continued its steady rise. Its single Self Aware reached No. 9 on the Global Excl. U.S. chart after recording 21 million streams. The song first gained popularity on TikTok earlier this year and remains among the strongest-performing alternative tracks.
Brymo renews criticism of Burna Boy
The latest chart success comes shortly after fellow Nigerian singer Brymo made fresh allegations against Burna Boy.
During an appearance on the NotJustOk podcast, Brymo claimed Burna Boy bought his Grammy Award. He also alleged that he had once been asked to pay $10,000 to secure a BET Awards nomination.
Brymo dismissed Burna Boy’s 2023 freestyle diss and insisted he would never mention the Grammy-winning artist in his own songs. He also questioned Burna Boy’s songwriting ability and stage performance.
The disagreement between both musicians began in 2023 after Brymo described Burna Boy as unoriginal. His latest comments have reignited public discussion about their long-running feud.
Burna Boy has added another remarkable achievement to his growing international career. His collaboration with Shakira on Dai Dai has become the first official FIFA World Cup anthem to top the Billboard Global charts, setting a new benchmark for football songs. As the World Cup continues, the record’s worldwide success further strengthens Burna Boy’s position as one of Africa’s biggest global music stars.
